MoveOn.org Ad

MoveOn.org announced the winners of their "obama in 30 seconds" ad contest. All four winning videos are worth watching and you must do so now. I hope they all make it on the air.

Oi! You stole my post!

This is the link directly to all the finalists, not just the prizewinners:

They're all pretty great, I think. I like Playground Politics for drama and heart stringing. I like "They Said He Was Unprepared" a lot too...it tells a truth. But I know why they picked the one they did to win. It's definitely the savviest.

I agree. But i have to say that "it could happen to you" made me laugh out loud. And it's probably the one I will tell people about so I guess that should say something

Sorry I stole your post. So you recomend looking at all the finalists? I will.

I must say, I was surprised by the one they picked as "winner." It's just, it sounds like every other political ad. I'm guessing the panel of judges are the same boring political consultants who pick every other political ad. Maybe they figure it targets a group they want to target and blah blah blah... consultant talk.

And GG, yeah, "it could happen to you" is the one I was talking about too!

"unprepared" is good. I like how it seems like a republican attack ad at first.

The judges are actually pretty hip. Check them out at:

In the right hand frame.

I think the conceit of this ad is that it is supposed to seem like yet another political ad, but for a REPUBLICAN. And then at the end they do the reveal to say he's voting for Obama. I think they could have punched this idea much more, though, to make it more clearly an almost-satire of Republican ads.

Remember, though, that those ads aren't deliberately bad. They're very carefully designed to appeal to certain types of people. I almost prefer thinking that they're terrible television, but the reality is that they are extremely good television for terrible people.
