So David Brooks is the acknowledged queen of iffy social generalizations. However, there may be something in what he says here. Politics (like any job that entails being surrounded by people who tell you how great you are all day) does seem to have a corrosive effect on the psyche, and that may have something to do with les affaires Spitzer, Craig, etc.
Then again, there's a huge selection bias operating here. Plenty of nautical engineers go to prostitutes or cheat on their wives, but we don't hear about it unless we're immediately involved. Maybe Pols (like Stars) are Just Like Us after all.

Perhaps the most clarion signal of the strength of my love for Obama is that I have found myself actually not wanting to give David Brooks a wedgie or flush his head in the toilet when I read his columns lately, ever since he said some nice things about My Guy. But this article shook me back into wanting to steal his Princeton-crested penny loafers and put them in a tree.

Usually a mild-mannered theatre person.
I find Brooks goofy and affable on the television. Every time he talks he smiles and blushes and looks down at the table. If you want to be loved, be lovable!
Besides, he's thought provoking and willing to concede points. Not egomaniacal.
By the way, thanks for the statistical wake-up call. Non-celebs visit prostitutes too. Let's not unfairly stereotype the industry.
Actually, I should think scandels like this improve the image of the whore industry. Now johns can be feel like the governor of NY. Raises it up a little, you know.
